Price per square foot is the sale price divided by the internal area, and it is the standard way to compare properties of different sizes.

Comparing two asking prices tells you very little when one home is larger. Comparing what each cost per square foot tells you which is actually dearer.
The figure only means something against a like-for-like benchmark: the same community, ideally the same building, and the same unit type. A citywide average hides more than it shows.
